The Knight's Riches
On the knight's traverse of mountains tread
the finish feels so long ahead
and without the comfort of pillow or bed
he feels less alive, more dead.
The setting sun begins to fade
and foods run out on the mountain glade
and his hands are cold from shield and blade
yet never from the path he's swayed;
For the goal is far but the prize is grand
atop the mountains alpine strand
the stakes are of the highest hand
and he left all he knew, unplanned.
And now the storm clouds gather amidst the dark
and the lightening shines upon leaf and bark
and he walks the pathways deepened arc
yet excitement ne'er fades of the treasured mark
When suddenly emerging from a sheltered cave
his enemies, hidden, a danger grave
his steel wildly soaring brave
he succeeds against the toiling wave.
Then he moves on through the night's cold sheathing
stepping carefully through stone and wreathing,
sudden sunlight rises through mountains teething
and he finds some peace from the dark night's seething.
He suddenly sees the prize from the hill top gleaming;
he runs through forest and jumps water streaming;
his heartbeat quickens with happiness teeming
and in his arms he takes the fortune, beaming.
His hand runs warmly along the face so bright
their eyes affixed in gazing sight
their lips touch in trembled might
their promise fulfilled of love's delight.
Through the dangers they had fought so strong,
never trusting love's instincts wrong,
an inner melody loud in song,
led them to two paths twinned lifelong.
With their promise rich endowed
their lives they shared with smiles proud
that their hearts had led them through uncertainty's shroud
and unto each other they forever vowed:
"Our love will conquer all constrain
and disperse the storm clouds and the rain
Because our love gave sight and we braved the pain
as it pulled us together across all terrain."
They learned that when you listen to one's heart within
a mysterious ballad can be found therein
the calling voice of the soul love's twin
guiding you through thick and thin.
They forged a kingdom bright and joyous, merry,
their destiny of treasure from boundless tarry
with riches bright and abundant, very,
a tireless love with passions un-weary.
The two knights with sword laid down to rest
their shields put aside had become their best
and joined in heart through battle and quest
they walked through all in happiness
and shared evermore a life path blessed.
