Nothing is Wrong with You. God is Within You and This Too is a Gift
'Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides; can I handle the Seasons of My Life? - I don't know.'
-Fleetwood Mac
There are times when stress brings out in us some of the darkest emotions, ones that we have thought were at rest in our past. Most often when this happens we begin to feel guilt, shame, regret, pain etc. A huge part of this happening is not to re-visit our hardships but perhaps for us to know and realize how far we have come since this original darkness.
'No matter how much dirt covers a diamond, it is still a diamond' is something that my best friend and Soul Sister Beckie told me. At that exact moment something clicked within me that could potentially change the way that I think about my own history and the occasional revisiting of that history which I promise you is not as exciting as a tea party with the Ghost of Christmas Past.
Beckie had an excellent point and sparked two different thought patterns within me. The first being that diamonds may not know their own value sitting within the earth or even when they are found and the dirt is washed off of them however we can be certain that the diamond has its own journey. That diamond may go on to be the symbol of love within a relationship, to be a representation of the profound serendipity the universe works within our lives such as in the case of finding The One. It may also go into a drill bit that will break through barriers that have the illusion of blocking us from what we are achieving. No matter what the diamond perceives itself as the fact is that like it's many facets it will have very different purposes and meanings to all different people and for all different reasons. Just because it has dirt on it, doesn't change its value.
The second thought that crossed my mind is that the diamond came into the awareness of society at the exact moment that it was supposed to so that it could fulfill an amazing purpose in the exact moment where that purpose needed to be fulfilled and in a way that only that particular diamond may have been able to do so.
So how does this relate to us? I am sure at this point you can see the analogy between us and diamonds in this sense. We all have our own purpose, our own perception of worth and how we can often be valued at a deeper level than what we may value ourselves. I feel that one of the most important things we can do, however, is to learn our worth. We are just as powerful and beautiful and profound as the part of God that is deep within us. We are that seed of infinite divine energy at the surface just as much as we inherently have that at our core. All of the experiences, the reactions, ideas and the emotions that we encounter, produce, invent and feel are on the cosmic level a resolution between two or more powerful conceptual energies and this is happening always - And all that while we are feeling happy, sad, defeated, empowered or what have you. In all of this is our greatness.
There is an excellent movie called Elizabeth: The Golden Age and in a part where Elizabeth realizes that her power is a hardship to bear just as much as her human urges she says 'God, grant me the strength to bear this mighty freedom'. There are schools of esoteric thought that believe that those who have the hardest time feeling the light and knowing it are the ones who are holding it and that the ones who hold light for the world have the hardest time knowing their own power.
When we think of things in that way where we realize that the greatest amount of light is surrounded by a great amount of darkness we can begin to see that the experiences that we have in our lives are not because we have let go of our light or forgotten about it but because we are holding it so brightly. I personally believe we are all holding light for the world. The prostitute on the corner, the homeless man on the street, the criminal, the mother who didn't take care of her kids and the mother who is at every parent teacher interview and of course the father who works hard for his family right next to the one who doesn't know who his family is - Are all holding their light in their own way and in their own time. Through all of this they are the resolutions that they seek, they are all the goodness in the world and they are all not without shadow. They are all so bright and loving and beautiful and are working in their own way to leave polarity. The unification of any field is sprouted from polar opposites resolving their energy to create a more harmonious field. In English: We have to acknowledge and accept both our light and our darkness. Tolerance of the things we don't like about ourselves is not enough. We have to accept, rejoice in and even celebrate these things because when we do we resolve them. If something hasn't fully changed for you by working on yourself perhaps it is something that needs to be celebrated. I assure you that even if you cannot celebrate yourself in all of your perceived antics, hang-ups and strengths somebody else already is. When we love something for exactly what it is, and it's potential for growth, the energy of it is no longer in duality but instead in unity because where love is understanding and compassion is abound.
Don't ever feel that you have to change. You are that diamond in all of its glory; unearthed, ready, with purpose and exactly as you are.
Oh, and the Fleetwood Mac reference at the beginning of this? We may not always feel ready or that we can handle things but think of it this way: If you weren't ready it wouldn't be happening. If you weren't able to handle the changes within your life you wouldn't have made it here. And not knowing whether you will make it through or not isn't entirely relevant - The point is you are, and you are doing it beautifully. <3
